Gosden keeping tight-lipped on Turgenev future
Trainer John Gosden remains coy on where Turgenev will race next but victory at Newmarket means a Group 1 is not out of the question.
The two-year-old secured the British EBF Crown At Stowupland Novice Stakes in his third start on Saturday, beating Il Paradiso by a length and a half. That success followed up victory at Newcastle on September 24 and the Dubawi colt has been tipped for big things.
Another of Gosden’s charges, Franz Kafka, finished third and while impressed with Turgenev, the Newmarket handler gave little away when asked if he would run in the Group 1 Vertem Futurity Trophy Stakes at Doncaster on October 27.
‘It was a good performance to give 6lb away and the ground is now turning.
The second looked useful and we like the third,’ he said.
‘He is improving. He’s in the race, but I’ll say no more than that and we’ll see how he is in the next 10 days.
‘He’s a nice type of horse and seems to have a good mind on him.’
