Figures of 4,4,3,9,12 and 4 don’t look typical of the winner of one of the day’s major handicaps but VICTORY COMMAND might well disprove that this afternoon.

The Mark Johnston trained son of War Command has run his last two races in this country here at Newmarket, but had three poor attempts sandwiched in-between at Meydan, which obviously didn’t suit.

Prior to that he had been beaten eight lengths by top-rated Too Dam Hot after running up a hat-trick at Beverley and Ascot, making all each time.

It looks likely that he will try forcing tactics today under master front runner pilot Joe Fanning and the distance of a mile might prove his optimum this season.

He stayed on last time over a furlong shorter of this course off a mark of 103, 7lbs more than today, and as his Ascot win was off 94, his chance today becomes obvious.

Top on BTO’s regular and speed ratings, the colt is ahead of likely danger FOX LEICESTER who followed up a novice Chelmsford win with a third at Sandown last week but is up 1lb today.

Richard Hannon’s LORD LEROY is well rated and ran well on his seasonal debut when fourth on Kempton’s all-weather but is up 10 lbs for his last win.
