Mengli Khan is Elliott's Galway hope

Trainer Gordon Elliott is confident Delta Work will get back to winning ways when he runs at Punchestown on Tuesday evening.

The six-year-old will compete in the Dooley Insurance Group Champion Novice Chase in Ireland, just a month after he finished third at the Cheltenham Festival.

Delta Work was unable to get past Santini and Topofthegame in the RSA Insurance Novices’ Chase although Elliott is still optimistic ahead of the Punchestown Festival.

The brown gelding had won his first three starts over fences, including successive Grade One wins at Fairyhouse and Leopardstown, and connections are excited to see him back in action.

Elliott said: ‘It was always the plan to come back to Punchestown with Delta Work after he ran at Cheltenham.

‘He ran well at the Punchestown Festival as a novice hurdler last year, so we know he likes the track.

‘The ground should be ideal for him and I’m hoping he can end his season on a high.

‘ Delta Work heads into the race as the favourite but Henry De Bromhead’s A Plus Tard is one to watch out for.

Willie Mullins will also be looking to claim the 3m race and his best chance comes in the shape of Getabird.
