Nicholls wants to add to 3000 wins
Trainer Paul Nicholls is looking to the future for further success after sealing his 3000th win.
He has become just the third trainer in history to reach such as landmark after Martin Pipe and Nicky Henderson following victory at Cheltenham on Thursday. Along the way, he has had 126 winners at Grade 1 level, 45 Cheltenham winners, and the 2012 Grand National with Neptune Collonges. He admits the feat was playing on his mind but now says there is opportunity to relax – though is also targeting 4000 wins before he retires. ‘It’s been an amazing journey and to get my 3,000th winner at Cheltenham is just brilliant.I’ll be looking for the 4,000 now – all we’ve got to do is keep going and getting the nice horses and it’s perfectly achievable,’ he said. ‘It’s been quite a while in coming as we knew we were close to the 3,000 but I think the expectation of getting there has meant quite a lot of pressure. But we’ve done it now so we can all take our foot off the pedal a bit and relax.’
