Spencer taken for examination on hip injury following gallops fall
Top jockey was riding out in Newmarket.
Jamie Spencer is waiting to hear whether he will require surgery on a hip injury sustained in a gallops fall on Friday. Spencer was riding out for trainer David Simcock in Newmarket when his mount slipped and unshipped his Classic-winning rider, who was taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge for treatment. His agent Niall Hannity said: “He was riding out for David Simcock when his horse just slipped. It wasn’t a serious fall, but he just landed awkwardly and was taken to Addenbrooke’s. “He has a hip injury and they’re not sure whether he will require surgery yet. “I’ve spoken to him and he’s in good spirits, although he’s in a fair bit of pain, but he’ll be fine.” Spencer had been in good form on the all-weather before racing was halted in Britain, recording five victories from just 17 rides.
