Snowden takes patient approach with Timoshenko
Smart Flat handicapper to go hurdling in the spring.
Jamie Snowden plans to take his time with recent purchase Timoshenko, before giving the smart staying handicapper his first run over hurdles. The Lambourn trainer went to 72,000 guineas to buy the four-year-old out of Sir Mark Prescott’s stable at Tattersalls Autumn Sales, and intends to unleash him over jumps in the spring. Snowden is giving Timoshenko a well-earned rest following a highly-successful Flat career which saw the Archipenko gelding chalk up a six-race sequence – culminating with victory in the Goodwood Handicap, before it came to an end in the Cesarewitch. “We’re just going to give him a little break now to let him recover from his Flat exploits, and then get him back in to teach him to jump and go hurdling in the spring,” said Snowden. “We’ll probably give him six weeks’ holiday now, then get him back and get him going. “He’s a classy horse – he’s got the size and the scope to not only go hurdling but also to go chasing as well.“He’s an exciting horse to have in the team.” Pacify has already made a notable transition to jumping for Snowden, following his successful career on the Flat. The seven-year-old will bid to extend his perfect record over the smaller obstacles to six in the Grade Two Sky Bet Supreme Trial Novices’ Hurdle at Cheltenham next weekend. Pacify, co-owned by the Duchess of Cornwall, has not put a foot wrong since arriving from Ralph Beckett’s yard – and was the winner of a Listed contest at Kempton on his latest start. “He came out of that race bucking and kicking,” said Snowden. “He’s in great form, so it’s all systems go for us to go to Cheltenham on Sunday.”
