Angel has to settle for second in France
British raider falls a length short at Maisons-Laffitte
Ayr Gold Cup hero Angel Alexander had to make do with the runner-up spot in the Prix Seine-Et-Oise at Maisons-Laffitte. Tom Dascombe’s charge led a four-strong British team into battle in the six-furlong Group Three, with Karl Burke’s Listed winner Lady In France, Amanda Perrett’s hat-trick seeker Tinto and James Fanshawe’s four-times winner Archer’s Dream also in the mix. With Richard Kingscote in the saddle, Angel Alexander looked to have every chance of following up his lucrative triumph in Scotland last month racing inside the final furlong, but was beaten a length by 16-1 shot Trois Mille. Dascombe said: “He ran a really good race and obviously came up against one who really loves that heavy ground. “I’m delighted with his performance. We came here to find out if he’s up to this level and he is. We were hopeful he would be, as it’s not easy to win a race like the Ayr Gold Cup as a three-year-old. “Before today we were thinking of taking him to Dubai and I think that’ll be the plan.”Tinto fared best of the other raiders in sixth, with Lady in France eighth and Archer’s Dream 11th of the 15 runners.
