Quickthorn highlights Kempton double for Tom Marquand
Jockey also on the mark with Tintoretto.
Quickthorn secured an excellent win in the first division of the Unibet 3 Uniboosts A Day Median Auction Maiden Stakes to help Tom Marquand bag a brace at Kempton on Wednesday night. The Hughie Morrison-trained colt finished two and a three-quarter lengths ahead of Maiden Castle to claim a 4-1 victory at the Surrey course. Marquand said: “He will stay further and is still getting to grips with what his job is so something to look forward to.” It was a case of London buses for Marquand after a winless few days, with Tom Ward’s Tintoretto showing a good turn of foot for a 3-1 success in The Unibet Money Back Free Bet If Second Handicap Stakes. The rider added: “We have the one-meeting-a-day rule in and I’ve found I have had more rides for it because you go one place for nine, rather than spreading yourself between two. “It’s been great, but the winners have been few and far between – obviously one of them was English King, which was great in the Derby Trial and Shatha – but it’s nice to get back on the scorecard and have a bit of momentum now.”Burmese Waltz (13-2) grabbed a win on her debut for Archie Watson in the Unibet Fillies’ Handicap – her first outing since April 2019. The Showcasing filly, who was previously trained by Ger Lyons, won by a neck from Shimmering Dawn in the hands of Daniel Tudhope. He said: “She picked up well, might have got headed at one point, but she had a nice attitude and fought back. “She had a long lay-off and it was a good training performance by Archie and nice to see her get her head in front.” Harry Bentley also doubled up, clinching his first of the night on Marco Botti’s Pretty In Grey (9-2) in the Unibet Thanks The Frontline Workers Handicap Stakes. He then teamed up with Ralph Beckett for another victory, this time on Hey Gracie in the second division of the Unibet 3 Uniboosts A Day Median Auction Maiden Stakes. Bentley said: “(That was) a big step forward. She was beaten by quite a few on her first appearance, but she has done well.” Ismail Mohammed’s Miami Joy sprang a 40-1 surprise to win the opening British Stallion Studs EBF Median Auction Maiden Stakes. A photo finish confirmed the victory for the Bobby’s Kitten colt just ahead of Night Moment from Mark Johnston’s yard. Jockey Sean Levey said: “He’s a nice two-year-old, he did it well. They were looking forward to him running. They said they had him ready for a while, so he should be OK going forward.” William Knight’s Shifting Gold (22-1) produced an equally impressive performance to take the Unibet Extra Place Offers Every Day Handicap Stakes. The filly, with Tom Queally aboard, came from last to first to pip Sandy Steve at the post.
