Fabre doubts chances of mid-April racing return
Leading French trainer Andre Fabre doesn't expect racing to resume in France or elsewhere in Europe on April 15.
Racing in France has been suspended until at least April 15 as a result of the coronavirus pandemic but Fabre feels that will be extended. ‘It seems impossible,’ he said when asked about an early resumption, as reported by the Racing Post. ‘Mid-April seems totally out of reach, in my opinion. ‘ Fabre has been able to keep a full staffing despite restrictions on movement imposed by the French government, as have other Chantilly-based trainers, and he indicated his charges will be ready for action as soon as restrictions are lifted. ‘We’re keeping the horses active,’ he said.‘Not working them seriously but ready to work, we don’t do more. ‘ He added: ‘Earthlight and Victor Ludorum are cantering but they’re ready to do something more. They’ve wintered well, I’m happy with them. It’s the same with Persian King, he’s doing well.’
