Assimilation takes Lincoln Trial honours

Winter sun pays dividends for Walker four-year-old.

Assimilation showed the benefit of having some winter sun on his back with victory in the Bombardier Golden Beer Lincoln Trial Handicap at Wolverhampton.

Having only arrived in England on Monday following a spell racing in Dubai, the Ed Walker-trained four-year-old wasted no time in opening his account back on home shores, staying on well to take the extended mile contest by half a length.

Wining jockey Luke Morris said of the 12-1 chance: “It is a lovely surprise for this horse. Fair play to Ed Walker and his team, as he only came back from Dubai on Monday. The sun on his back has done him the world of good.

“I thought they went quite quick, then turning down they dropped anchor. My plan was to be as close to Silvestre de Sousa (on Fox Power) as I could, as he was the horse to beat. He got a lovely trip through the race and hopefully he is a horse on the up.”

Part-owner Colin Dale, who has only recently bought into Assimilation, hopes he can now build on his this success throughout the year.

He said: “Gary (Plasted, travelling head lad) was out there in Dubai with the horse and said he was bouncing. They do like a bit of sun on their back.

“He didn’t like the dirt out there, but likes the Tapeta. That was a good win. He has been a very good buy, and is something to look forward to.”
