Mullins talks up Chacun Pour Soi’s Champion Chase credentials
Trainer Willie Mullins is confident Chacun Pour Soi can challenge his more fancied rivals for Queen Mother Champion Chase glory on Wednesday.
The Champion Chase is set to be the pick of the races on day two of the Cheltenham Festival with Altior bidding to make it a hat-trick of victories, while Defi Du Seuil is also expected to be a serious contender. Those two have been tipped by many to fight it out for overall glory in the Grade One showpiece, but Mullins does not feel his charge can be completely ruled out, particularly after he beat Defi Du Seuil by four-and-a quarter-lengths at Punchestown last year. ‘It’s going to be a very competitive race with Altior and Defi Du Seuil in the line-up, but we are very happy with our horse,’ Mullins was quoted as saying by the Racing Post. ‘All has gone well with him since his win at the Dublin Racing Festival, where he showed how much he had improved from his first start of the season. He’s classy and we’re hoping he will be up to the task he is facing.‘ Chacun Pour Soi also still holds an entry in the Ryanair Chase on Thursday, but it appears the Dublin Chase winner will be going all out for the glory on Wednesday instead, with Mullins bidding to win the race for the first time in his distinguished training career.
