Hughes eyes Epsom return for Derby hope Brentford

Colt cruised to victory on debut at Newmarket.

Richard Hughes has pencilled in a race at Epsom in April as a potential comeback target for his exciting colt Brentford Hope.

The son of Camelot carried the colours of owners Bernardine and Sean Mulryan to a hugely impressive debut success at Newmarket in October – cruising to a five-length victory under a confident ride from Jamie Spencer.

Hughes is considering Epsom’s Blue Riband Trial Stakes – a Listed event run over a mile and a quarter that gives the winner free entry to the Derby – as a possible starting point for Brentford Hope’s three-year-old campaign.

“The plan may be to start him off in the Blue Riband,” said the Lambourn-based trainer.

“He’s fine, not a bother on him.”

Brentford Hope is a general 33-1 shot for the Investec Derby back at Epsom in June.
