Aintree over Cheltenham for Song For Someone

Tom Symonds says Song For Someone 'won't be going anywhere near' the Cheltenham Festival and will target the Aintree Hurdle.

Song For Someone has managed two wins in four attempts this season and the five-year-old claimed victory in the two-mile Kingwell Hurdle at Kempton on Saturday.

Trainer Symonds is now targeting the Grade One Aintree Hurdle with his charge, and he says Song For Someone’s performance on Merseyside will help him make plans for next season.

‘He won’t be going anywhere near Prestbury Park [for the Cheltenham Festival] this year, even though I think two miles around there on soft ground would probably suit him quite well,’ said Symonds, as reported by Sky Sports.

‘I think we’ll probably run over two and a half at Aintree and hope for some soft ground.

‘ He added: ‘We’ve always thought he was going to be a chaser and he has jumped fences well at home, but that doesn’t always translate to the track, obviously.

He’s in the higher echelons over hurdles now, so we’ll see [what happens next seasonn].’
