Tiger Roll to bid for National hat-trick
Connections have confirmed Tiger Roll will bid for a third successive Grand National victory in April.
No horse has ever managed to win the world’s most famous steeplechase three times in a row, but Tiger Roll’s involvement was cast into doubt when the handicap marks were announced on Tuesday. Eddie O’Leary, racing manager to his brother Michael’s Gigginstown House Stud, voiced his displeasure that the Gordon Elliott-trained had been given the same handicap mark as multiple Grade One winner Delta Work but he has now announced the plan is to head to Aintree. Tiger Roll will also run at Navan this weekend and in the Glenfarclas Chase at the Cheltenham Festival before his National hat-trick attempt. ‘He’ll go to Navan this weekend for the Boyne Hurdle that he won last year, he badly wants a run (after a setback),’ said O’Leary. ‘If he comes out of this fine, it will then be Cheltenham for the cross country again.‘If all goes well this weekend and then all goes well at Cheltenham, it will then be the National.’
