Kid Commando makes no mistake on Plumpton mission
Future looks bright for Honeyball winner.
Anthony Honeyball will begin to get more ambitious with his plans for Kid Commando after he showed a touch of star quality to make a winning debut over hurdles at Plumpton on Monday. Having finished fifth in a Listed bumper at Ascot last month, the six-year-old made light work of his rivals in the Strong Flavours Catering Maiden Hurdle. Sent off a 2-7, Aidan Coleman’s mount made all to run out a cosy 11-length winner of the two-mile prize. Honeyball said: “It was a good start and it was nice to see him performing like he did in his first bumper at Fontwell – that made you go ‘wow’. “Venetia Williams’ horse (Jack Valentine) had a bit of respectable form, but it looked a nice opportunity for him. “He was keen in both starts at Ascot and that was detrimental to his finishing position. He has settled better, but Aidan said he would be in no hurry to step him up in trip yet.“I will put him in the Supreme in case he does turn out to be a flying machine. The Sidney Banks at Huntingdon is possible, but we will probably go to a Listed novice hurdle at Exeter next.” Loose Chips showed he still has plenty of life in him with victory in the Sky Sports Racing Conditional Jockeys’ Veterans’ Handicap Chase. Despite requiring plenty of assistance in the saddle from Tom Buckley, the Charlie Longsdon-trained 14-year-old rallied valiantly to get the the better of Dylanseoghan by two and a half lengths. Gareth Evans, member of the Barrels Of Courage syndicate said: “He looked a little bit lonely at times, but he kept going and that was great. These sorts of races are good for him. “We’ve had so many good days with him and he doesn’t owe us anything. It is great to see him still racing so keenly and getting in the winner’s enclosure.” Sean Bowen made it 50 winners for the season after the Harry Fry-trained Over To Sam gained a first success over fences in the feature New Plumpton History Book Available Chase. Bowen said: “It is good to get to 50 winners – 100 is the aim, so we are halfway there now. I’m not sure we will get there, but I will try. On the 5-2 winner, he added: “He is a very fragile horse, but on his day he has lots of ability. We hoped he would make a nice staying chaser. The softer the better and hopefully a big three-mile race would suit him well, but we just have to take it day by day with him.” Daniel Sansom celebrated his first winner since July when galvanising multiple Flat scorer White Chocolate (15-8) to victory for Seamus Mullins in the Watch Todays Race Replays On attheraces.com Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle. Sansom said: “My last winner was on the The Pink’n in July. I had a quiet summer and my weight was a bit heavy and I fell out of love with it a bit. Hopefully we can pick up now.”
