Sweet Story Can Have A Happy Ending

Tate Three-Year-Old Back On Winning Track

Proven ability to go on Southwell’s Fibresand surface is a criterion to be filled in the search for a winner at the course and Tom Tate’s FAIR ALIBI does that in the Betway Amateur Riders’ Handicap today.

The gelding has raced there twice, back in the Spring, winning the first and going down by just half a length in the second.

That shouldn’t have been a huge surprise as he is by Paco Boy whose offsprings win at about 10% here – not spectacular but perfectly acceptable.

The gelding might have the greatest potential for progress in the field, having run just a dozen races, and is dropped to a rating of 65 after running eighth of 14, beaten under six lengths, off 68 over seven furlongs at Newcastle last time out.

The drop to six today will definitely help as his win and second were over five furlongs and he has been running on mainly soft ground when tackling six furlongs this summer.

Tate is two from nine at the course and won with his only runner with today’s amateur Patrick Millman up.

LETMESTOPYOUTHERE is the clear rival and is in top form with two seconds in his last two races.

He was runner-up to Garth Rockett at Chelmsford three weeks ago and that horse came out and won from 12 others at Lingfield on Saturday.

Trainer Archie Watson is 26% at Southwell and the horse is by Sir Prancelot whose progeny have won a convincing five races from just over 30 runs at the course.

He looks good but on the downside are his placings in five efforts here which read 5,2,3,6 and 8.

GLOBAL MELODY is being backed and has won here but hasn’t got his head in front for nearly a year and at 7/2 and being backed, Fair Alibi can catch the judge’s eye.
